Travel Diary | Khutaghat Dam & Ratanpur Mahamaya Temple | The Beauty of Chhattisgarh

When you are visiting Chhattisgarh, you will find tons of dams and water reservoirs surrounded by beautiful jungles! One such dam is called Khutaghat. I know, the name sounds quite uncommon! It is situated near Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh and it comes before the Ratanpur Temple when you are on the Katghora-Bilaspur route. I have visited this temple many times in the past, but it was my first time visiting Khutaghat Dam. I could not spend a lot of time there, but it was truly a wonderful place! Scroll down to see the couple of pictures that I clicked over there.

This dam is constructed on kharang river. It is a picnic spot as well as a tourist attraction. When we went there, we saw many people on the opposite side of the dam, just enjoying their time and having a picnic. I did not see any eateries on there, but it is written on this board that there is some facility for guest house and food. Mostly, the people were cooking their own food on open fire so I guess you are allowed to cook there. Unlike Buka Dam, Khutaghat is not an isolated place. It is barely 15-16 kilometers from Bilaspur.

In Khutaghat, you can enjoy boating if you are lucky enough to find boats on the shores. People say that the kharang river has crocodiles and stuff, but it can be a mere rumor! ?

Since photography is not allowed inside the Ratanpur Temple, I could only click these three pictures of the outer parts of the temple. Ratanpur Mahamaya Temple is one of the 52 shaktipeeths spread across our country. It is a beautiful and divine place. Everyone who is traveling to Chhattisgarh should visit this place once. It is usually not that crowded, unless there is some kind of festival like navratri. The best time to go there is in the afternoon. There is also a lake besides the temple where you can just sit down, look at the ducks or go for boating! This place is a pure bliss.
