I remember using Elle 18’s lipsticks back in 2008-2009 when the brand was newly launched in India. I used to be really amused with their lipsticks and nail paints back then because of their packaging. The packaging of Elle 18 products was and always has been so chic and girly. This brand rarely launches any new makeup products, but when they do, it always becomes a hit among the makeupholics because of their affordable price tags. These days, Elle 18 is the talk of the town for their matte lipsticks that cost only Rs.100! They are available in total 20 shades and today I’m going to review and swatch the shade called “Belgian Brown”. Want to know if it’s actually worth the hype? Then just scroll down below!

The Color Pops Matte Lipstick comes in the usual Elle 18 style lipsticks packaging. Its cap shuts tightly so you can put it in your bag without worrying about it messing up everything. Overall, the packaging is just too good at this price point. Usually, when you buy a makeup product that’s anything below Rs.200, you get a cheap class plastic packaging that would just snap if you don’t carry or store it properly! 😝 There is no such issue with this one. The only problem is that it isn’t colour coded (though the shade name is mentioned on the bottom of the lipstick).
It was really hard for me to get my hands on this lipstick. About couple of months back, I had placed an order for 4-5 of Elle 18 Matte Lipsticks, but the Amazon seller cancelled my order due to insufficient stocks. After that, I didn’t try to order them again until I saw them last week on Flipkart. Only 4 (out of 20!) shades were available over there and that too with delivery charges. All 4 of them were from the brown color family, I chose Belgian Brown because I wanted to include a true brown shade in my lipstick stash. It’s a beautiful chocolaty-brown shade that would look good on all skin tones, but especially on dusky beauties.
The formula of this lipstick is beyond amazing. It glides on the lips easily and gives a decent amount of pigmentation. You can swipe it 2-3 times on your lips to make it completely opaque. Or just apply a single layer and blot it to get that MLBB effect! Its finish is almost 90% matte. Since it has a creamy formula, it gives a little bit of sheen to the lips and that’s why it can’t be considered a fully-matte lipstick. I do have a simple trick which makes the lipstick 100% matte in seconds!
I can’t say anything about its wear time precisely because I haven’t thoroughly tested it yet. But it has stayed on me for about 4 hours once (without any meals in between). Will update the post whenever I have proper opinions about the staying power.
