Easy DIY Hair Masks For Different Hair Concerns [2 Ingredients ONLY]
1. Curry Leaves & Curd Hair Mask | DIY Hair Mask For Hair Growth
Curry leaves (known as kadi patta / meethi neem in most parts of India) are widely used in Indian cuisine to enhance the taste of Indian dishes. They are also known for their hair growth stimulating properties.
Curry leaves are full of beta carotene, amino acids and antioxidants that strengthen the hair follicles and make them grow stronger. They come with an added benefit of preventing and reducing premature greying of hair with the help of Vitamin B present in them.
Here is how you can make your curry leaves and curd hair mask at home:
- Make a thick paste of curry leaves by grinding them with water.
- Mix the paste with curd (adjust the quantity according to the length of your hair). Add water if the mixture seems to thick.
Once these two ingredients are combined properly, apply the mixture liberally all over your scalp and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. Wash off the mask after that and try not to use a shampoo that contains a lot of chemicals. It will just lessen the benefits you would be getting from the hair mask!
I am not a big fan of curd’s smell so I will probably substitute it with coconut oil or milk, but if you are OK with its smell then you should definitely try it for your hair!
2. Aloe Vera & Coconut Oil Hair Mask | DIY Hair Mask For Damaged Hair
Excessive pollution in the air, poor diet, frequent use of heating tools are some of the common factors that can severely damage your hair and make them look lifeless! Furthermore, colouring your hair frequently or getting chemical based treatments done for your hair can also damage them. You can revive and rejuvenate them with this easy DIY hair mask.
I was planning to mention the recipe of avocado and coconut oil hair mask, but I chose to skip it because avocados are not easily available in India. Plus, they are quite expensive! Avocados are truly great for hair, but aloe vera gel is no less beneficial! It smells amazing and it immensely hydrates the hair and scalp.
I use this aloe vera and coconut oil hair mask very often. It is easy to make, you have to take both of the ingredients in the same quantity and apply the mixture on your scalp as well as on your hair ends. If you have an essential oil like Rosemary or tea tree, then you can add them as well.
The aloe vera gel will provide your scalp an instant cooling effect and make your hair look well nourished. In India, Patanjali Aloe Vera Gel is the most affordable option if you cannot get fresh aloe vera gel. For coconut oil, you should go for cold pressed one.
3. Mustard Oil & Lemon Hair Mask | DIY Hair Mask For Dandruff
Having dandruff and itchy scalp is probably the most annoying hair problem in the whole world, just don’t get me started about it! I have had excessive dandruff issue for a long time. I recently found out about this exceptionally amazing hair mask which can get rid of dandruff easily with antibacterial properties of lemon and scalp moisturizing properties of mustard oil.
Put half tablespoon of lemon juice in 3-4 tablespoons of mustard oil and massage the mixture on your scalp using your fingertips. Use this hair mask once a week to notice the results. This hair mask will also give your relief from itchy scalp. You may also use a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil in place of Lemon Juice because it is more concentrated and beneficial. Get Nykaa Naturals Lemon Essential Oil in India or Majestic Pure Lemon Essential Oil from Amazon Global.
4. Banana & Honey Hair Mask | DIY Hair Mask For Dry Hair
Banana is my most favourite fruit (and I am hoping that no one is going to make fun of me after reading this confession of mine!). Many people don’t know that banana is a high source of biotin which is a Vitamin B complex that maintains the overall health of hair and scalp.
For this hair mask, take a ripe banana and mash it well. Mix the mashed banana with honey and apply it on the scalp. You may also use this hair mask on your face to brighten up your complexion and make your skin soft. It will be like hitting two birds with a single stone! And the best part is, this hair mask is very much edible.
5. Egg & Olive Oil Hair Mask | DIY Hair Mask For Curly Hair
My beautiful curly haired friend, Soumya Midhun (I would rather call her mermaid, or curly haired goddess!), who is also a blogger and a YouTuber, says “Curly hair is drier as compared to straight hair, so the point is to keep them from getting dry otherwise they can appear frizzy and damged.”
She recommends curly haired beauties to keep the hair nourished all the time and avoid the use of alcohol based leave in conditioners to maintain their curls.
An easy way to maintain them is by using this egg yolk and olive oil hair mask at least twice a month. Here is how you can prepare and use it:
- Take two egg yolks in a bowl and whisk them.
- Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, along with some water to into the egg yolks to dilute the mixture.
- Apply the mixture all over the scalp and hair using your hands or a brush, to make the process less messy!
I know that the smell of egg yolk will not be pleasant to your nose, just try to bear it for 25-30 minutes because this hair mask will do wonders for your curly locks! To get more tips for maintaing curly hair, follow Soumya on Instagram and subscribe to her channel on YouTube.
