Foundations are one of most popular makeup products that we use today. However, you would be surprised that not many people know how to use them properly. Although it isn’t an exact science, there are a couple of things that you need to pay attention to when selecting and applying foundation. Here are 7 tips that will help you with your foundation:
7 Tips To Apply Foundation Perfectly
1. Pick The Right Color
Some women find it hard to choose the color that suits their skin. The ideal color should blend to your skin tone easily when you apply it to your jawline, chest or cheek. Remember to always test your shade in natural lighting. Choosing the right shade of foundation is the most important step for applying foundation.
2. Get Your Face Ready
Sometimes when we are in a hurry, we forget to prepare the skin with a moisturizer and give it time to sink. To get the best out of your foundation, you have to clean your face with a suitable face wash and a toner that will help to reduce pores. Hydrate your face with a light moisturizer afterward and allow it to sink before applying foundation. You can also opt for a primer if you wish to have your makeup last for an extended period of time.
3. Less Is Better
You don’t need to cover your whole face with foundation. Your face looks fresh and somewhat natural when you use foundation minimally without compromising its function. If you are using powder foundation, it is most effective when you repeatedly press your foundation lightly where it is needed. If you are using a liquid foundation, try to apply by using only thin layers at a time. It is recommended that you choose a powder foundation if you have oily skin and a liquid foundation if your skin requires more hydration. If you opt for a liquid foundation, I recommend reading this guide first to learn more about choosing liquid foundations.
4. Go From The Middle And Swipe Away
To get the best natural finish, start from the center of your face and blend outwards. You can use a sponge or a brush if you want a more even coverage. However, chances are that not all parts of your face require the same amount of coverage. Therefore, I find it’s best to use your own fingers because it’s easier to control the coverage you need. If you are unsure of how much foundation you need, do some research and learn about your skin type. Your skin type determines the thickness of your foundation. From my experience, I recommend using a light coverage if you have dry skin and use a medium to full coverage if you have oily skin.

5. Blend Your Foundation Properly Over Your Ears, Neck, And Eyelids
Having a different color on your neck and ears make you look silly. To get the ideal finish, carefully blend the makeup all over focusing mainly on the ears, neck and eye regions. Applying foundation and blending it properly over your eyelids minimizes redness and gets rid of that “sleepless night” look.
6. Apply Concealer Before Foundation
Get a concealer that is just a shade lighter than your natural skin tone. Make sure that your face is clean so that you can see all of your trouble areas. Apply the concealer to difficult areas like dark eye circles, red spots and blemishes. Blend your foundation on top of the concealer and this will help you achieve a smooth finish.
7. Polish Your Makeup With A Luminous Powder
Luminous powders reflect light and when you have them on your face, they make your face look more polished. The trick is to apply the luminous powder on areas of your face that you want to highlight the most. This includes your cheekbones, inner corner of your eyes and the bridge of your nose. This is a trick that most people overlook but it’s well worth the time. Why leave your face looking dull and lifeless when you can make it shine?
