If you’re an Indian, you must be very familiar with this word – Ubtan. It is an ancient Indian remedy for the beautification of the skin. Many people around the country still prefer to use homemade Ubtans instead of ready made face packs which are available in the market. Today I’m going to review Omved All Skin Types Ubtan which I have been using from quite a few days now. Read on to know how it fared for me!
About Omved
The legacy of OMVED extends far beyond its date of creation. Dating back more than 5,000 years ago, Indians have practiced holistic healing using plants and herbs to treat both illnesses and diseases.
It is this traditional belief of the Vedic Sciences; treating the whole person leads to greater balance and well-being, that Omved’s philosophy is rooted in. We consider the effects of our products not only on the hair or skin, but also on body, mind and emotion.

My Take
Until now, I had only used homemade Ubtan made with Besan (Gram Flour), mostly to get rid of my facial hair. I found Omved’s Ubtan a little unique because it is made up of turmeric, sandalwood and two different kinds of lentils. Never in my life I had imagined that there can be a Ubtan of Moong daal and Urad daal (daal= Lentils, Which we usually use to make Dhoklas and Idlis?). The product, i.e. the Ubtan comes in a huge packet. It’s mentioned in the back of the packaging that you have to store it at an airtight container, cool and dark place once the packet has been opened. I feel that it’d have been better if it came in a jar or something because it’s hard to find empty containers at home. I am keeping it in its original packet at the moment.

The Ubtan is in powder form. To use it, you have to take its required quantity in a bowl and add some water to make a thin paste. It starts to smell strongly like black urad when you mix it with water. You can apply the Ubtan on your face and body with the help of a brush or your finger tips (I prefer the latter). I use it on my face, neck and arms only. The Ubtan takes just a few minutes to dry. Once it has dried up, I remove it by gently scrubbing it for a few seconds and then rinse the remaining ubtan with water. I love how it washes away all the oil from my skin and leaves it feeling clean, soft and bright. It contains 4% turmeric root and, usually, I don’t add turmeric to my Ubtans fearing that it might stain my skin, but I haven’t noticed any such problem with this Ubtan. It stains the basin and my clothes though!
I used this Ubtan regularly for around 5 days straight and then changed the frequency to alternate days. With my experience, I can say that this ubtan can be used regularly to achieve a cleaner skin and brighter complexion without causing any harm. Dry skinned beauties may find this Ubtan a little drying for their skin. I have a few dry patches on my forehead (which never go away!) and whenever I use the Ubtan on them, it makes them even more dry! So if you have dry skin, you will need to mix it with some moisturizing ingredient(s) like Honey to make it work for you. People with oily skin are going to adore it! ☺
What I liked about Omved All Skin Types Ubtan
- Inexpensive.
- Comes with good quantity.
- 2 in 1 product. Can be used on body and face, both.
- Cruelty free and chemical free.
- Contains only natural ingredients.
- Makes the skin softer.
- Removes oil and impurity from skin.
What I didn’t like about Omved All Skin Types Ubtan
- Doesn’t work on my acne scars, but makes my skin appear healthy.
- May not suit people with dry skin unless it’s mixed with honey or something.
- Tub/Jar packaging would have been better and easier to store.
Final Words

I haven’t used ubtan yet because of the hassle it takes. This sounds good for my oily skin 🙂
Yeah, even I am too lazy to make homemade ubtans! 😀
Great review Dipti! I really have to get this one! Moong dal and Urad dal are really great for your skin which helps in removing suntan, brightening and preventing acne, hence perfect ingredients for an ubtan. You can also use them instead of face wash and shampoo. I also would like to say that turmeric doesnot leave yellow stains on face if used in small amount and also with besan or moon d dal etc.
Thank you so much Husna sis! Yeah, these daals have very good properties which are beneficial for your skin. And Yeah turmeric rarely leaves any stains on face, but I am still afraid of it. 😀
