The wedding season is all about looking glamorous!
Everyone wishes to look their best for the wedding season.. it does not matter whether it is their own wedding or their aunt’s neighbor’s distant relative’s wedding!
I rarely attend weddings, but they do make me happy because they give me a chance to doll up from head to toe. As soon as I get to know about a close one’s wedding that I am going to attend, I start planning my outfit and my makeup look in my head wayyyy in advance! (I hope that I am not the only one who does this!)
If you are going to attend a wedding this year and you are planning to do your own makeup, then here are some life saviour makeup tips for the wedding season that will make you look extra fab in all the wedding functions that you will be attending! These makeup tips for wedding guests would surely make you star of the party!
7 Makeup Tips For The Wedding Season That You Should Know!
Wedding Makeup Tip #1 – Wet Your Brush Prior To Applying A Highlighter & Get That Beautiful Candle Lit Glow
See, I am all in for that nikkietutorials’ glowing goddess look. I mean I can even do that full-face-of-makeup-using-only-highlighters look and roam around the city like that!
But let me just say that it will not look as good as a soft, subtle and skin-like candle lit glow this highlighting technique will give to your cheeks!
I recently discovered this technique for which, you first have to wet the brush with a makeup setting spray or a facial mist, pick up the (powder) highlighter with it and then apply it on your cheekbones as well as the other high points of your face that you would like to highlight.
Be very light handed while doing this as the wet brush can move the base makeup that you may have applied earlier. After trying this technique, you would notice that your face will not look like as if you have a stark line of highlighter on your cheeks. Instead, it will seem like your skin is glowing from within!
And yes of course, if you have a cream or liquid highlighter then you don’t have to follow this technique. It is only for powder highlighters which are most commonly used by beginners.
Wedding Makeup Tip #2 – Line Your Lips To Make Your Lipstick Last Longer
Attending an Indian wedding means getting a chance to eat loads and loads of deliciously-oily food!
Well, Makeup lovers would know that oily food is the worst enemy of lipsticks.
You can either enjoy hogging on food or you can have your lipstick stay put until the wedding function has ended, no you cannot choose both of the options! Gurrrrl, even those super long lasting, waterproof, tsunami-proof, bullet-proof matte lipsticks start to fade from the inner corners of the lips if you eat something oily – speaking from my personal experience.
You will have less chances of getting those weird bumhole (sorry, there is no better way to explain this!) lips look if you line your lips before going in with a lipstick.
You don’t necessarily need to have a lip liner that is the same shade as your lipstick, just use a nude lip liner. I will soon do a detailed post in which I will share a couple of more tricks that can help you to make your lipstick more long lasting. This tip is enough for now!
Wedding Makeup Tip #3 – No Time To Do Your Eye Makeup? Just Apply Loads Of Mascara & Highlighter!
I recently attended two back to back weddings of close family friends.
And being a lazy sloth that I am, I used to get really less time to do my makeup before the wedding functions because I preferred completing my beauty sleep instead of getting ready for the functions.
So to do my full face of makeup as fast as possible, I used to spend less time in doing my eye makeup!
Just applying loads of mascara to your lashes and a highlighter to the eyelids is enough when you don’t have time to apply and blend 3 different eyeshadows.
Adding mascara will make your eyes look more awake and bigger instantly. The highlighter will just further enhance the look. Use your fingertips to add a wash of highlighter all over the eyelids and do highlight the inner corners of your eyes as well.
If you have some extra time in your hands, then use a kajal or a gel liner to tight line your upper lash line and make your eyelashes look fuller. For lower lash line, use a nude or a white kajal to brighten up the eyes more.
Wedding Makeup Tip #4 – Carry A Small Touch-Up Kit With You
I have made this mistake of not carrying a quick “touch up kit” multiple times in the past!
No matter how waterproof/smudgeproof/bulletproof/cakesmashproof your makeup products may claim to be, your makeup can look a little messy and faded by the end of the day.
As you know, wedding functions can be really long and if you are attending an Indian wedding, then you probably would not even get a minute to go back to your room and touch up your makeup if it starts to look messy!
So the best solution for this would be to carry a small pouch with some key products that you can use to quickly fix your makeup. The quick touch up kit should include some tissue papers, a small pack of wet wipes, a lip balm and the lipstick you are wearing that day, a compact powder and maybe a cushion foundation if you have one!
Along with these things, you can also carry some other essentials like safety pins and bobby pins in the kit.
Wedding Makeup Tip #5 – Highlight Your Collar Bones
Wearing an outfit with a revealing neckline? Then use a highlighter to highlight your collar bones and make them look more prominent. This will look really beautiful if you are wearing an off shoulder dress or blouse with your lehenga, you would look no less than a ramp model!
Wedding Makeup Tip #6 – Do. Not. Forget. Your. Brows.
Fuller eyebrows with well defined arches can make your face appear more youthful and lifted. Since you are going to get photographed in the wedding, you should make sure that your eyebrows are nicely filled in because cameras can capture any sparse spots on the eyebrows really well!
Even when you are not feeling like wearing any makeup, you should still fill in your eyebrows to make it seem like you have your life put together. Just kidding! I use a brown eyeshadow to fill in mine, but now I am thinking about investing in a good eyebrow product.
Wedding Makeup Tip #7 – Ditch The Black Eyeliner
No – black eyeliner is not “out of fashion”. I am telling you to ditch it because black eyeliner can look too harsh in wedding photographs. You should either wear a charcoal / brown eyeliner or just smoke out your black eyeliner for that softer look.
