Hello readers. Today I am going to review my latest gadget – Lenovo Tab S8 which I have been using from a month or so. We had ordered it in January but received a faulty piece at first which stopped working after less than 24 hours of use. This tablet is exclusively available on Flipkart so they exchange it for us but after almost 2 weeks. They sent a new piece and I haven’t faced any problem with this one. Let’s get to the review now ~
Lenovo Tab S8(50LC) was launched in December 2014. You can take it as a good competitor of Asus’ Google nexus 7. You can always find it on a discounted price over here.
The Lenovo Tab S8 sports a mighty 8 inches IPS display with pixel density of 283 PPI.
PROCESSOR AND OS
The tablet is powered by a 1.86GHz Intel Atom processor and runs on Android 4.4.2(KitKat) operating system.
It has 16 GB internal memory (out of which you will get 11 GB only) and a microSD slot which can be expanded upto 64 GB. I didn’t buy microSD card because 11GB is more than enough for me.
The RAM is of 2 GB.
This Tab gets it’s food from a 4290 mAH Li-Po non-removable battery which is not that great for an 8 inches tablet because the big screen eats up most of the battery but still the backup is pretty good, especially in standby mode. Check this out –
As you can see, the tablet ran for 2 days and 17 hours after 100% charge. It was mostly in standby mode.
It has 1.6 megapixels front facing camera and rear camera of 8 megapixels. I love it’s auto focus and touch focus, unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to test the camera in natural light but when I do, I will post my clicks. Check out this picture, I took it in no light(not talking about flash) with touchfocus on the object.
You can see a little blurry effect in background which is due to touch focus. By the way, I musy tell you that It is not easy to take photos with this 8″ device!
Only a few tablets support 4G connectivity and it is one of them although 4G services have not been released in India yet. I have tested it on BSNL 3G and it’s pretty fast here. It supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity as well. It supports single, Micro SIM card only
It comes with almost no bloatwares but has some useful apps like ShareIt, SyncIt and all Google apps like Gmail, Hangout, Chrome Browser, Photos etc. I dislike it’s default launcher (Lenovo launcher HD) so I am using Go launcher.
|Lenovo Tab S8 Review – your search for a budget friendly tablet ends here!|
This tablet is best for hardcore gamers. I have played some HD games like Thor 2 without any interruption.
HIGHLIGHT OF THIS DEVICE
The main feature of this device – it’s Dolby speakers which gives HD audio quality experience. There are two of them on either side of the screen.
It is available in three colours, ebony (black), canary yellow and blue.
- 8 inches screen
- 4G connectivity
- Camera quality – you don’t get 8MP rear camera in most of the tablets
- Dolby speakers
- Affordable price
Good for gaming
- Heats up quickly (near camera)
- Non-removable battery
- Accessories like Flip cover, back case, charms, screen guard etc aren’t available in India. I am using a Samsung tab’s screen guard.
- The screen reflects a lot ( I don’t know if it’s a con but I do get disturbed by it when I am watching a movie with lights on )
- The back cover gets scratched easily, see this –
|Scratch on the back cover, you can’t blame my long nails because it is surely not because of them!|
MY PERSONAL VIEWS ABOUT LENOVO TAB S8(50LC)
If you are looking for a budget friendly tablet with all, much needed features then your search ends here. It is suitable to anyone, whether you need it for office work, for gaming or for photography, but if you are buying this for your kid (yeah most of the parents these days are buying such expensive things for their kids) then it would be a bad choice because it is so delicate and can break easily, I can barely hold it with one hand but yeah it is lightweight and you can get good grip on the back cover which is probably made up of carbon. Anyways, All the said features are up to my expectations and I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good tablet but cannot afford expensive ones like the latest iPad or Google nexus 9, if you can afford nexus 9 then you should definitely go for it otherwise Lenovo Tab S8 is there for you.
When you first switch on the tablet you will be asked to update to latest firmware of Lenovo but I have not updated it yet so can’t say anything about it. I hope it gets Android 5.0 update soon enough.
P.S – there is a smartphone from lenovo which has similar name (Lenovo S8) please don’t get confused with it if you are trying to order from Flipkart.
