Hello everyone! After receiving a great response on my previous post – 8 Makeup Products You Can Make By Yourself, I am writing another compilation post of DIYs and this time it’s all about skincare products that we use on a daily basis. You can save a lot of money by making your own, effective skincare products at home instead of buying the expensive ones from market. So if you want to know about 6 DIY Natural Homemade Skincare Products then keep on reading the post!
6 DIY Natural Homemade Skincare Products
1. Homemade Body Lotion
A body lotion is something that you need to use all year around to keep your skin moisturized and hydrated. Usually, body lotions aren’t that expensive, but the ones available in the market are mostly loaded with harmful chemicals and parabens. So if you have sensitive skin or you’re allergic to such chemicals, then try this DIY body lotion which is completely natural! Here are the ingredients that you will need –
Melt the grated beeswax along with oil in a double boiler. Take 3/4th cup of warm water in a food processor and then slowly add the melted mixture to it, a little by little. You can add essential oils at the end, but it’s an optional step. If you don’t have a food processor, then you can mix the water with melted with your hands.
2. Homemade Body Butter
Body butters look super appetizing, don’t they? 😉 They are a life saver for people with extremely dry, flaky and scaly skin. Body butters can be easily made at home, the only thing is that getting raw ingredients to make them is a little difficult in India. Below is the list of ingredients you need to make a quick, whipped body butter. I have also added the links from where you can purchase them!
- 1/4 cup of Shea Butter
- 1/4 cup of Cocoa Butter
- 1/4 cup of Coconut Oil
- 1/4 cup of Argan Oil
- Essential Oils of your choice
Take all the ingredients (except essential oils) in a double boiler and wait for them to get melted. Keep stirring until all the ingredients have become liquid. Remove the melted mixture from the heat and let it set for a while. You can add essential oils at this step. Once it has set, whip the mixture with a whisker or hand mixer.
3. Homemade Facial Moisturizer
Our facial skin requires a daily dose of moisturization to look healthy and glowy! Treat your skin with a 100% natural facial moisturizer that can be quickly made at home with these ingredients –
- Shea Butter
- Jojoba Oil
- Aloe Vera Gel or Juice
- Essential Oils
Melt Shea butter and jojoba oil using the double boiler process and then add the aloe vera gel/juice to the mixture. Take it off from heat and whip the mixture for good 10-15 minutes, until it’s smooth enough. Add essential oils of your choice, I will recommend adding neem essential oil or tea tree essential oil if you have acne prone skin and lavender essential oil for dry/normal skin.
4. Homemade Facial Moisturizer – For Oily Skin
And this second moisturizer is for people with oily skin! It is very lightweight and won’t clog your pores. Here are the ingredients for the same –
- 2 tablespoons Hemp Seed Oil
- 5 tablespoons Jojoba Oil
- 2 tablespoons Beeswax
- 1 tablespoon Aloe Vera Gel (would be great if you can get fresh one!)
Again, for this recipe, the oils and the beeswax need to be melted with a double boiler process. Once you have removed it from the heat, the mixture will start to solidify. Whip / blend it only when it is totally cool and lastly, add aloe vera gel.
5. Homemade Exfoliating Orange Body Scrub
Using body scrub is a great way of getting rid of tan on the body. It also exfoliates away all the dry and dead skin cells on your body. Here is a simple body scrub made with orange peels, you will need –
- Orange Peel Powder (available in the market) or Orange Peels
- Sandalwood Powder (also known as Chandan Powder)
- Dried Rose Powder or Dried Rose Petals
If you aren’t able to find orange peel powder in the market then you can make it by yourself by taking dried orange peels (just put the peels under the sun for a few days) and grinding them in a mixer. You can do the same thing to get dried rose powder. Mix all three ingredients well and use the mixture to scrub your neck, arms and legs at least twice a week to see suitable results. You can add a little bit of honey to the mixture to make the scrub less harsh for your skin.
6. Homemade Lip Scrub
I read somewhere that you should never use raw sugar directly on your lips as a scrub. Here’s how you can make a gentle lip scrub with sugar, you will need –
- Brown or White Sugar
- Olive Oil
- Peppermint Essential Oil
- Cinnamon Essential Oil (if you want the pumping effect, use it carefully!)
Honey and olive oil in this lip scrub will make it less harsh for your lips. The peppermint essential oil will give a soothing effect to your lips while the cinnamon essential oil will make them appear plumper!
